Employee Spotlight: Meg O’Connor

As Hannon Hill’s newest Support Specialist, Meg spends her days talking to customers, answering their questions about Cascade CMS and Spectate, troubleshooting problems, and improving Hannon Hill’s products and resources.

Let’s learn a little more about Meg!

How did you first learn about Hannon Hill?

I found the Atlanta Tech Village job board during my last job search and saw a support position at Hannon Hill that looked like a great fit for me. When researching Hannon Hill online, they struck me as a company with a strong commitment to customer satisfaction.

What do you like most about Hannon Hill?

I love how many learning opportunities there are! Providing support for Hannon Hill’s products means learning about subjects from database administration to web development and everything in between.

What would you do for a career if you weren't doing this?

I think I would probably be a reference librarian. I really enjoyed my college work-study job in the library and with the variety of questions I got each day I was never bored. But if money were no object I’d totally have a small farm with chickens and sheep.

What does a typical day look like for you?

Throughout a typical day, I monitor our various support avenues such as email, chat, forums, & Slack and answer customer questions and troubleshoot problems. In my downtime, I get to work on improving our product documentation and knowledge base.

How do you define success?

From a support standpoint, success is not just solving the problem or delivering the right answer, it’s also proactively identifying opportunities for product and resource improvement. Success is going above and beyond what’s expected of you.

What is the best vacation you've been on?

I’ve traveled to some amazing places around the world, but anytime I can get to the beaches in Alabama or the Emerald Coast I always come back totally relaxed. There’s something about the ocean that pushes everything else out of your mind.

What's your favorite blog/website?

I love Ravelry.com for keeping track of my knitting supplies and finding new projects.

Tell us three things most people don’t know about you.

I’ve read all of the late Sir Terry Pratchett’s Discworld books at least twice, except for the last one he wrote, because I don’t want it to be over. My favorite smell is burning leaves. And I’ve been wearing the exact same shade of lipstick for the last 15 years.

What books are at your bedside?

I’ve got a few on my Kindle, but I’m currently reading The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot for the Hannon Hill Book Club and Old Man’s War by John Scalzi which is Tor.com’s ebook of the month.
